Describe Bee City USA-Village of Galena in 3 Words?
We would describe Bee City USA-Village of Galena in these 3 words: Save The Pollinators
What’s your favorite part of being in the Market every Saturday?
As beekeepers, our favorite part of participating in the Market each Saturday is to see the joy in customers' faces when they see they've found a local source for healthy, pure, raw honey to enjoy! However, as advocates for honey bees, native bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, the most important part of our participation is to educate our visitors about the declining population of our pollinators as well as how vital they are to our well being. Scientists estimate that one out of every three bites of food we eat exists because of pollinators like bees, butterflies, moths, birds, bats, beetles and other insects. We provide visitors with information and resources about what they can do to help save our honey bees and other pollinators, such as: choosing native Ohio plants for their gardens, removing toxic chemicals from their pest control, and promoting the preservation of rapidly disappearing native habitat in open spaces around their communities. Close to 75% of the world's crops that produce fruits and seeds for human consumption depend, at least in part, on pollinators for sustained production, yield and quality. A world without bees means our markets would have half the amount of fruits and vegetables. So let's all do what we can to Save The Pollinators to keep enjoying all the delicious honey, fruits, vegetables, flowers, bread, and other foods sold here at the Westerville Farmers Market!
