Meet Our Uptown Westerville Business District - StoneyPoint Counseling

5/9/2021

Tell us a little about StoneyPoint Counseling:
The StoneyPoint Story: The name StoneyPoint comes from a special place from my childhood where I developed some of my favorite memories with my family growing up. Now, as generations change family structure, I share it with my husband and children and our friends and family. It’s where I first learned how to swim and took that first leap of faith by jumping off the dock and taking my first plunge into the water.  I visit this place each year for connection with family, renewal, friendship and love.  When someone asks the question, what is your favorite place in the world, StoneyPoint always comes to mind.  Years ago, when my now 16 year old son was about 5 years old, we drove down the wooded lane to the beautiful old cabin, he got out of the car and said, “this place smells like happiness”.  It was one of those moments that reminded me how special this place is for so many and why I knew the name StoneyPoint was the perfect name for my work here.

What we do: StoneyPoint Counseling is dedicated to helping clients understand, manage and cope through their mental health journey.  At StoneyPoint we focus on trauma recovery, depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, parenting skills, and communication.  Our mission is to help individuals, couples and families effectively navigate day to day challenges and find balance to thrive in all aspects of life.

Why did you choose Westerville and what is your favorite thing about Westerville?
My husband and I, along with our two youngest boys (16 and 5) moved to Westerville in June 2017.  We immediately fell in love with our community and our neighbors. We had never seen anything like 4th Friday and the way the community in Westerville comes together during different events locally, nationally and globally. We’ve been able to meet so many people in a few short years and it really feels like home.  I wanted to start my counseling practice in the community where I live in order to be able to serve individuals, couples and families here.

What is one thing your business is known for? Presently, I am providing individual, family and couple’s therapy. I hope to engage the community in other initiatives as well as I grow my practice.  Providing counseling is more of a calling for me than a job or career. Everyone, at some point in life, experiences a challenge they struggle to overcome. Sometimes we need to learn new and more effective ways to manage those life challenges.  I am here to help when that happens.

Describe your business in 3 words: FIND YOUR BALANCE

Meet Our Uptown Westerville Business District - Green Haven Living

11/30/2020

Green Have Living LLC was established in 2016 by Angie Scheu, a Veteran, former Human Resources professional, and Environmentalist. The concept for the company arose years earlier out of a strong post-recession desire to live, work, and contribute to the community in a more sustainable way. Green Haven Living was launched as a series of mobile pop-up shops in Central Ohio. They were completely blown away by all the love and support the community had shown them. So, Angie opened a brick-and-mortar storefront in Uptown Westerville in 2018. During the COVID-19 crisis they launched a new website so that the community could still access products they use regularly and browse the latest additions to the store. At Green Haven Living, they keep the community, sustainability and wildlife conservation at the heart of everything they do!

When you walk in, you'll immediately feel as though you are stepping back in time to a very sophisticated establishment in a very cool moment in time. Asterisk's owner, Megan Ada, wanted to find a way to pull beauty from Westerville's rich history as the home of the Prohibition movement and subsequent passing of the 18th Amendment, Prohibition. She created Asterisk as a throwback tribute to when times were slower and when friends and neighbors would gather around the supper table.

Describe your business in 3 words:
Resale Consignment Boutique

Why did you choose Westerville for the location of your business and what is your favorite thing about Westerville?
After living in Uptown Westerville for 7 years (now 10) I fell in love with the people and the community. I couldn't imagine a better place to own a business. So that's exactly what I did....I "imagined," even drawing a vision board that pictured Uptown Westerville as the location for my business. Within 2 months of my vision board exercise, I saw a "For Sale" sign in the window of Deja Vu. It was the perfect fit for me, coming from a retail as well as thrifting background, and I only live 6 blocks away! Westerville is an historic city full of energy from long time residents, newer imports (like myself) as well as the Otterbein campus community.

What one thing is your business known for in the community?

Natural Specialty Soaps

What’s your favorite part of being in the Market every Saturday?
Our favorite part of the market each week is meeting new people and creating relationships with other vendors and returning buyers. We have had the opportunity to help many Westerville Market attendees with different skin issues including eczema, dry skin and Poison Ivy.  Getting the chance to talk about our soaps and lotions each week is always rewarding. And the smiles from returning customers keep us happy. The fun atmosphere with families, shoppers, music and food is a great way to start our Saturday!

Describe Royal Cottage in 3 Words?
The best way to describe Royal Cottage using 3 words only; jammed fruit fusion.

What’s your favorite part of being in the Market every Saturday?
My favorite part of being at the market every week has to be talking to the customers.  I love giving customers or as I like to call them "guests" various ideas on how to use our products.  But I also enjoy hearing their ideas too.  Fruit jams and butters are not just for your morning pastries anymore.  They can be used in savory dishes as well.  I also love seeing all of the dogs at the market!  I grew up having dogs and at any given time we had 4 to 5 at a time.  This makes the market feel more like home to me.
