OHIO ART MARKET
MICHAEL KAREN RAYER Michael is an artist, whose work is sold at Ohio Art in Uptown Westerville, as well as MatchMade in Alexander, Ohio. She is a watercolorist with a speciality in pet portraits and wild animal paintings. Like many artists, she started with crayons, which still have a special place in my heart (and a large box in her studio!). In school Michael took every art class that was offered, and was able to experience all the different medians. She always knew she wanted to be a watercolorist, in the form of painting animals, but a husband, child and work interfered. She always knew she would pick up watercolors again one day. She would spend her spare money on books and put them away for “someday”. Someday finally came about 11 years ago, and her watercolor love affair began! A wise teacher told her to “paint what you love” and she loves animals, especially dogs. She painted and threw away and painted and threw away until one day, SHE LIKED IT! Today Michael combines watercolor paint and animals and considers herself very lucky to do so! HOOT

ROSANA PAULINO PARAISO Rosana Paulino Paraiso Tropical (Tropical Paradise) directly addresses the process of colonization and slavery in Brazil, to understand the legacies of colonialism and racial constructions in the present. It also challenges the discourse of domination that was normalized by scientific theories in the 19th century. The work also deals with the notion of Brazil as a paradise, but a paradise for whom? the country was seen - and continues to be seen by the national and international elites - as an immense warehouse where people, fauna, and flora are there to be exploited.
